Patch 1.29f No CD Problem (sorry)

Hi,

I am late in joining the Civ3 group, and I just learned that Civ4 is
coming out Real Soon Now. And I'm sure this issue is, by now, a Dead
Horse here, but I just had to ask.

I recently bought an inexpensive legitimate (boxed and everything) of
Civ3 Vanilla, installed it, and then downloaded and installed the v1.29f
patch from one of the "official" sites.

I dutifully updated my video drivers for XP Home, made sure that all 3rd
Party programs are not running in the background.

But, still, I'm running into the "Please Insert CD" problem, after the
v1.29f patch is installed. Everything seems to work fine without the
patch. And, yes, the CD is in the same drive from which I installed Civ3
originally.

I have already tried Atari Support (who, as I understand, recently sold
Civ3 back to An Unknown Buyer). I have tried ina-support.com. I have
tried the civfanatics site. I have searched Google. I have searched
gamecopyworld. I even tried megagames.

Perhaps I didn't search enough, or for the right things, but I still
haven't found a solution to the problem. I know this game is a coupla
years old, but there has to be a solution.

Anyhow, if anyone here can advise me of how to get rid of this NoCD
problem, I promise to fix them Christmas (or your Holiday of Choice)
dinner, as long as you provide the airfare and fixin's.

Also, e-mail responses are encouraged (just remove the ".invalid"), but I
will check back here soon.

Thanks in advance,

As there seems to be only one English patch for Civ 3 it doesn't seem that
you could have applied the wrong one. Maybe the copy protection has been
changed when you apply the patch and maybe that is causing issues with your
CD drive, even though you have the original game..? So......

You could pop over to....(it will wrap so you could either copy and paste
the link of just go over to www.megagames.com)

http://www.megagames.com/cgi/download/download.cgi?action=search&category=cracks&search=CIVILIZATION.3.129F.ENG.GIMPSRUS.NOCD.ZIP

....and download the no-cd exe that allows you to run the game without the
CD. I keep all three (Civ3, PTW and Coquests) original CD's safely inside
their cases and do not need any of them to play.

Start by cleaning the disc. Make sure it's the same version of Civ
you are playing (probably a gimme.)

You may wish to search for the NO-CD patch to add. I am running 1.22
on C3 Conquests and love it not having to spin up my drive.

Would you point me to the nocd version for c3c 1.22?
You said you played with all three, but I only found the ones for
vanilla civ3 & ptw on megagames, but not the latest c3c.
It isn't under game files|patches/mods nor is there a nocd for 1.22
under game fixes|pc games. There is something for 1.22 with a 'backupcd'
(whatever that means) in the filename, but from the .nfo file in the
zip it just seems to be the 1.22 update.
Thank you very much!

Hey, I'm trying to run a copy of Civ 3 1.29f, but when I run it it tells
me to insert CD. I have my CD in the install drive, but it still
wouldn't work. I then downloaded the NO-CD crack and all of a sudden
my graphics are all screwed up! The game starts with 12 portraits of
the roman emperor making funny faces, and when I try to go into the
game none of the graphics work right.

Help pls!
