Hello folks,
With the kind help of Brandon Supernaw - clicking on own embassy star on map
- one gets the make embassy prompt.

I'm sorry I didn't read your first posting carefully enough. But better later
than never.

Many thanks for postings.
A very happy
Fred

OK, now I'm confused. What _were_ you clicking on?

Probably was making the same mistake I made when I first started
playing. I didn't remember doing it until I just read your question. :)

I was, at first, trying to click on the capital of the nation I was
trying to establish the embassy in. *shrug*

Well, that's a perfectly logical mistake to make now that you mention it.

You've got it. When reading the instructions from the on line help, I got the
distinct impression that you had to click on the star of the country you
wished to connect to.

ctrl+alt+e will open the screen to buy embassies.

Or is it crtl+alt+d?

Anyway, one of them will.

I'm guessing they're the PC keystrokes.

Fred uses a Mac and it's actually Cmnd-Shift-d.

I made this mistake too, in the early days.

Of course, this method would have left you with no way to establish
embassies with Civ's whose capitals you had not located.

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that
English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words;
on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them
unconscious and riffle their pockets for new vocabulary. -- James D. Nicoll

Gah. That's the shortcut for the diplomacy screen. It's Cmnd-e to bring
up the embassy options.

I just reloaded the same game I used to test this. Please remember that
we're talking about Vanilla Civ III here, not PTW or C3C. Neither of
those keystrokes did anything for me at all.

As I said in my reply in the initial thread, Vanilla Civ III 1.29 does
not allow access to any embassy selectiion via shift-e or shift-d.
Shift-e brings up the espionage menu and Shift-d brings up the diplomacy
menu where you can pick which civ you want to talk to. So far, the ONLY
way I have found to bring up an embassy placement selection menu in Civ
III 1.29 is to double-click on the star icon at your Capital.

Later in PTW and C3C, shift-e will bring up the combined espionage AND
embassy menu and shift-d still brings up a diplomacy menu.

That's not exactly *illogical*... ;-)

According to the original civ manual:
Cntrl-E to establish and embassy
Cntl-Shift-E to plant a spy
Shift-E to use embassy or spy

You might need to adjust as someone suggest for the MAC. Also you can
use the embassy features by clicking othe rival capital.
