I went to switch on my computer this morning and it didn't boot up. The power came on then monitor went to stand by instead of a screen coming up, nothing else happened. There where no beeps no bios came up nothing. The thing is I am pretty sure there was a power surge last night as the tripper switch for my house was off this morning, is there any thing that can be done to resurect my mobo or is it broken. It is definatly a motherboard problem cause i have tried everything else. Could anyone please enlighten me cause i'm really pissed off. I have an abit kt7a mobo.
Remove the plug from the back of the power supply. Move the cmos jumper over one position for 10 seconds, then return to original position. Then plug in the power cord and turn it on. After the one beep, you should be able to get into the bios and adjust the settings.
I have already tried to do this and it makes no difference, I don't get any screen at all. When I switch it on all the fans run the fan on the graphics card and the mobo are working, the hardrive whirs but thats it nothing comes up on the screen. I have also tried disconecting everything apart from the graphics card and still nothing, i also tried another graphics card in it.
Can anyone please help.
Seems i'm always the one to bring the bad news.
You have a 75% chance your cpu is a gonner, kaput!
BTW, psu trouble and cpu burnouts can be similar. Please do try a different psu. They are quite a bit cheaper than cpus , right !

Thanks for the replies but I still have a few questions, if it was a cpu burnout would I not get beep messeges from the motherboard. Also if the psu has packed up how come there is power still going into the board and all the fans are funtioning correctly.
I would like further assistance otherwise I wil have to take it to a shop to be repaired (expensive).
The main problem is that I don't have any other parts that i can use to test with, if anyone has some great ideas I would appriciate any help that I could get.
