If I turn scientific leaders on, will that stop military leaders from
appearing?
I'm sure I've had well over 50 elite victories against other
civilizations without a military leader appearing.
I've heard someone suggest that a leader will not appear while I have
another one, and I admittedly do have a spare scientific leader, but that
didn't prevent another scientific leader from appearing, and I remember
that in earlier games (pre conquests) military leaders would appear even
if I already had one.

More about : scientific military leaders

I've had two Scientific Leaders appear on the same turn! At first I thought
it was a bug but then I realised I just got very lucky. I got to Philosophy
first, and gained a Scientic Leader because I was the first Civ to research
it, and then chose Literature and got another! Built The Great Library
straight away, and the War Academy as soon as I had Feudalism. Happy days
:-)

It's annoying how you can have multiple scientific leaders but only one
military leader at the same time. So having a scientific leader won't
prevent another from forming, but it will prevent a military leader from
forming.

An early patch to Vanilla eliminated the storing of MGLs
This logic was halfway carried forward in conquests in that stored SGLs
do indeed prevent new MGLs as well.

You can still get a SGL while holding on to your others. A good thing
because the "Age of Science" doesn't work.

How much fighting are you doing?

Are you upgrading Elite no-star units?

Also, if you play a military civ you'll get more promotions of vets to
elite.

Oh, and I wouldn't be complaining too much. 4 SGLs in one game beats my
SGL record. (3 as Sci Civ, 2 as non-Sci Civ)

Last three games or so I haven't got a single MGL. Not that I absolutely
need them, but it pisses me off some. Armies can be useful for cracking
particularly hard defensive nuts. I make a point of attacking with elite
units as much as possible, too. Had 4 scientific leaders in one game at
one time, but not a single military. :-\

Usually not toooo much, but when I go for it, I really do (i.e. I don't
stop until they're GONE) which typically happens one to three times per
game.

I was referring to fights with Elite units only - I know they get reset
to Veteran when you upgrade them.

Yupp, I know that. Typically I play as religious & scientific - I like
the bonus discounts that come with it better'n any others.
