Just browsed thru an advert from one of our local hardware stores, you know the ones that sells everything from hairtrimmers, toasters to pc´s...

On the last page they proudly announced that they have started a new pc service section.

It reads something like this:
Do your PC have random lockups?
Feeling slow?
Strange messages popping up on the screen?
Well, fear not!, just send your computer to our store and
we will check it for ya for the low-low cost of $50.

And, this is what they will do with your pc.

* Consultion with PC expert
So?
"Ok, we consulted our expert", now what?

* Diagnostics
"Does it hurt if I squeeze here little friend?"

* Virus Check
Can´t people do such a simple thing for themselves?

* Removal of old files
I assume they´re talking about old DLL´s hangin´around on the harddrive?
They have to, I have tons of "old" files on my computer that I´m pretty sure are needed.

How can they possibly track down every single DLL that´s not in use, yes I know that there are programs for this purpose but the ones I´ve tried are just crappy and don´t do their job.

* Optimization
Of what?
Installing some drivers, then what? I don´t think they´re going to mess in the BIOS or do something other hardware related that will increase performance.

I don´t now, maybe I´m just a bitchin´ bastard but to me this feels like a rippoff.
The things they offer to do is pretty basic and I don´t think it´s worth the money...

Poor suckers that get hooked on this deal.

All in all, will your PC be much better?
Will you notice any difference?
When removing DLL´s there´s a big chance that they mess
something up, perhaps it will not show off at first but maybe a week or so later...

.Shitfaced.

Maybe they'll blow the dust out of the case....with a fancy hair trimmer.
