WINDOWS MESSENGER 4.7 REFUSES TO STAY IDLE

For some reason Windows Messenger 4.7 keeps poping up with messages from
friends who are listed in MSN MEssenger 6.2....

I went to RUN...click on MSMSGS...TOOLS.....OPTIONS...PREFERENCES tab
....uncheck proper boxes to prevent Windows Messenger from starting....and
......
after making sure Windows Messengers (both) are OFF...I get into my
multiplayer video games in the internet and POP comes Windows Messenger 4.7
with some of my friends trying to chat to me....is extremely
annoying...what can I do?

I do not have NORTON ANTIVIRUS i have McAffe.

I did uncheck same boxes in MSN WINDOWS MESSENGER 6.2 to prevent it from
starting with Windows.
MY last option is to remove the ppl that is listed in the PRIVACY tab of
Windows Messenger 4.7 but is that going to remove them from my good MSN
WINDOWS MESSENGER 6.2 also?

I'm not a McAfee user, but does it have the option of scanning Instant
Messenger programs like Windows Messenger? In Norton, that feature is
present and does indeed cause WM to load, so perhaps that's the case here.
