It's not done yet...SCO only lost a minor battle but are shifting gears. Now they aren't after Linux..they're after IBM/Novell and those companies use of code from Unix Sys V...which they think was copyright infringed. They don't even have to offer solid proof for this because the proof is in the copyright office. so...the nitty gritty is this:

They (SCO) are claiming that the settlement reached between BSD and novell required that certain files in BSD have copyright notices added. The files that SCO is complaining about were added to linux before the settlement was reached and since the settlement was only made known to Novell and the BSD developers (sorry, can't quite remember exactly who was involved in the settlement) no one knew to add the copyright notices to linux. Now that SCO has possibly inherited the Novell side of the settlement, they're trying to claim copyright infringement because linux has these files without the notices. Even though they were released under the BSD license without the notices before the settlement.

They're shifting gears also complaining about error numbers in the origninal Unix code being assigned to linux...however, Linus Torvalds states here that this cannot be the case and their claims are full of poo.

So it was really a three front lawsuit and they just dropped one front. They're still pursuing the other two. How well they will fare is set far into the future...take a look at the Timeline for court action and legal deadlines. This is going to take a while...get comfortable and pull up a fresh copy of your fav. distro. ;P
