i have a gigabyte ga-7zxr motherboard with a VIA kt133 chipset with optional Promise IDE RAID and am unsure whether i will benefit by setting up an array

i have a 13gig hdd as primary Master
a ricoh mp7200a cdrw as primary slave
a toshiba dvd rom as secondary master
and western digital 30 gig hdd as secondary slave

(the western digital is not detected by the bios if its jumper is set to master and the dvd as slave? but it's no that big a problem I don't think) i have an Athlon 1200mhz cpu but with all the above the machine runs like a snail compared to my other pc which runs a p3 450mhz bot systems using Win98se

if i won't see any speed improvemnt i won't bother.

P.s No help from Gigabyte direct they could not advise?

well, your main reason for sluggishness is slaveing your 30 gig to your 13 gig. but if you want to go raid then you need to get 2 identical hdd's for optimum speed, otherwise your performance will be limited by your slower and smaller drive. 2 30gig hdd's will read as 1 60 gig, combining a 13 and 30 would probably only net you 26gig since your limited by the smaller. raid will increase transfer speed by at least 1/3. good luck, hope this helps.
