I just moved into Comcast territory. Got their Cable internet service which
included a Scientifc Atlantic DPX2100 Modem. I can connect OK, but when I
add the Linksys router the connection fails. What must I do to correct?

In most cases, the first device's MAC behind the modem must be
provisioned with the ISP. That device being the MAC of the NIC in the
computer that was provisioned with the ISP that can access the IPS's
network or the MAC of the router was provisioned with the ISP as the
device that can access the ISP's network.

If you have not provisioned the router's MAC with the ISP, then that
could be your problem. However, the Linksys router has a MAC Cloning
feature that allows you to take the NIC MAC of the computer that can
access the ISP's network and clone/enter the MAC into the router so that
the router on its WAN port presents the cloned MAC to the ISP. The ISP
will not know the difference.

Don't know anything about your setup/service, but... with my (different
modem, same router) setup the modem worked and router didn't. Found the
modem had ip of 192.168.1.1 and the router had the same ip. Changed
router to 192.168.2.1 and all was well.

What do you mean by fails? Intermittent or no internet connectivity at
all? Did you configure the router?
