U know on new motherboards there is a function that makes the computer start at a specified time.. and u can start the computer with Wake On Lan..
and my question is: Is it the BIOS that tells the computer to start or is it a other device on the board that makes it possible to start a computer without pushing the button?
im sure that the bios plays a part.
but remember that when an atx motherboard is plugged in, and the psu is turned on, there is power to the board..so there can be components taht are on...including the lan.
yeah, it isnt running at full voltage, but stuff like the controlled on the network card are probably on, so that when a packet is sent to the network card, the network card sends the wakeup command to the bios, and the bios turns it on.
this is all speculation, so i am not sure about whether or not this is true.
