My cable modem feeds a Netgear MR314 wireless router. The home network
has 4 computers, two of which are hardwired to the router while the
other two (laptops) use wireless cards (Netgear MR401 and Proxim
Orinoco Silver) for wireless connection. This network has functioned
for the past 2 years with only occassional hiccups. All use Windows XP
Home.

As of yesterday, the laptops no longer recognize the router. The
hardwired computers continue to access the Internet (and each other's
files) without any problems. When I hardwire the laptops they, too,
function properly. When I access the router's web interface
(192.168.0.1) all the settings look normal. When I run IPCONFIG on the
laptops, I get a message about DISCONNECTED MEDIA, even though the
wireless cards are in.

To add to the weirdness, the laptops recognize the neighbor's wireless
network, but not mine.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Eric

Sounds initially like the wireless part of the router has
died a sudden death. Can your neighbour see anything of your
network without either laptop being on?..if not, I'd say the
router is faulty.
