going bonkers here, i have a gig of the best ram in the world. There is no reason to use a swap file to hard drive when i got enough ram for anything the computer could want to do. I tried to "lower" the virtual memory amount, but then the computer always gives me a pop up window stating that the amount of vitual memory is critically low and windows is going to "automatically" make it higher.

Should i just put in a large number and not worry about it or is there a way to just fully disable virtual memory?!?

if you have a gig of ram, disabling vitural memory isn't a bad thing is it?

I have a gig of memory as well and I know I've gone into Vmem at times. I would suggest leaving some Virtual memory the amount is up to you. Only thing I would suggest is setting the min and the max to the same value. This stops the page file from ever expanding dynamically which cause defragmentation.
My own settings are Min/max 1280. I have 1024MB of physical memory.

anyone else, i have a gig of memory, there is no reason for my computer to be using a swap file (virtual memory) on the hard drive...(am i wrong about this?) How can i disable the warning that my vmem size is too small, or just disable vmem all together?

while we are on the subject, anyone know how to create a ram drive under windows 2000? i remember doing it on a mac and doing it under win98...Say i wanted to load an entire cd into ram so it never had to access the hard drive...

Actually you're mistaken. The computer will always use the swapfile no matter how much RAM you have installed. Even servers with 2 GB's of RAM still swap things out to the swapfile.

While a system could be run without the swap file I wouldn't recommend it. Just leave it set to the default windows makes it on install (1.5 times the amount of RAM) and don't worry about it.

well, i just find it really annoying that i have a gig of ram and my computer is say utilizing 300megs of it, and keeps asking me to increase the size of my vmem file. If i'm not even using 1/2 of my ram, why does windows need to keep using my hard drive to store files in instead of ram???
