"There are more airplanes in the ocean than there are submarines in the sky."
Right you are, Old Chap, right you are! The Intel 810-chipset requires a special set of XP drivers (graphics and otherwise) from Intel to function with XP Home Edition or Professional. My mistake all along was in trusting Dell to have a BIOS functional across the spectrum, but their current generic Dimension A05 BIOS version would not "handshake" with those requisite XP 810-chipset drivers from Intel - as a last resort, I went directly to Intel for a BIOS update (which is actually counter to Intel's own counsel) only to find out support for the 810-chipset was discontinued - but, there was a "retiree" archive that held the latest applicable version (they are all the way up to AA12 now).
Popped that "suckah" in and all my troubles went away.
