I NEED 4 USB ports.. (I have 4 USB devices I must have hooked up at all times)
Now of course, it comes with the two right on the back. I wish they would have included a-la my MSI mobo a connector to give me 2 more on the back.
My Question: How do I get more than 2 USB ports? I know it can have up to 6.... annnnd...
How should I set up the USB so it all will work in my BIOS? (all enabled???)
Also, Does the Green LED light always have to be on as well as the LAN light? I understand it runs a lil current through the board at all times for the WOL. But, what if I don't want the system to ever WOL? Can't that be all shut off? It also keeps my KB lights and the ethernet port lights always lit as well. I use a NetGear nic, so I have the onboard nic disabled.
One way is to get yourself an Antec Easy USB or something similar. Or you can go hog wild and get a cool toy like the PC Geiger RD2. There are many options. Also, the board comes with a 3-1/2 USB front header (like the Antec)
It's always the one thing you never suspected.
Have you looked in your box...because, you are suposed to have a front plate with to USB and a smart card reader. You can install this plate in a 3 1/2 inch disk drive or in a 5 1/4 hole in front of your computer. with that adapter, you will have 2 USB at the back of your computer and 2 at the front, for easy acces.
the wire are included with the plate so younjust have to look in your manual for where to put them.
the LAN is always on, because of th WOL, when the system is suspended mode. Nothing is working in there, so it must keep the current there to receive the signal, then check if it has to boot or not. And the green light is the power good light. Always on too, when the power cord is plugged and the motherboard is receiving good power to start.
I don't want to use the smart card reader, b/c I don't want to take up the drive bay with it, and also I rather have them on the back anyway. I am trying to find a bracket that has 2 on it, and then just plugs into the USB header, but noone has them it seems, tho I bought one from compusa about a year ago, all they have now is hubs, and the PCI type.
On the lights, I know the green led stays lit for power, but it's the fact that my KB is all lit up even when PC is off thats bothering me. That can't be right, yet I have disabled WOL onboard nic you name it, and there is my KB shining brightly all night long.
The light for the keyboard is because you can turn on your computer with it, by presing a key. If you had an optical mouse, as I have, the light would be always on too. Because, I just have to click on a button to turn my computer on.
I bought such bracket for my usb but dont remember the place online...do some rechearch
Oh, I see what you want. These guys have one Here, scroll down to the EXP-12. I've done this sort of thing before. If the plug doesn't exactly match your header you can switch the pins, and plug it in offset. It will most likely come with instructions on how to do that. Good luck.
