Windows 7 will not boot up after loading screen

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium computer. Last night, I installed a printer driver update for my printer from HP. My computer regularly turned off. Then, when I turned it back on, the boot screen came up, loaded, and then came a black screen. I've waited about a couple minutes to see if something would load but still, just a black screen. I've tried safe mode, which I couldn't even access, and restoring defaults on the BIOS menu. What happened to my computer and what can I do to fix it? Thank you. I appreciate it greatly.

  1. What do you mean you could not access safe mode? Please clarify.

Did you press F8 during bootup to show the option to boot to safe mode?
  2. I have had HP drivers mess with my startup before too. Try shutting off/unplugging the printer, if you haven't already. As rwpritchett said, tap F8 repeatedly after the computer POSTs to enter safe mode. If that fails, insert the Windows 7 install disk and run from that. You may be able to restore to the point before you installed the HP driver.
