Hi I have not been here for a fair while as you will probably tell by my specs.
cel 400 clocked at 600 stable as a rock(bigger hsf),
abit be62 rev1.2(slot1+slotket)+ hpt 370 onboard controller(ata 100) 512mb pc133ram, 20G 7200 wd hd, 32mb tnt2 tv/out etc etc.
my big question is what is the best cpu to use without replacing mobo. It has soft cpu setup 111 so i can ajust voltage, fsb etc if needed but it is still a bx board.
Can the new celerons be clocked like the old ones(eg will 1g/1.2g get to 1.5g with a bigger hsf.

PS I just updated my bios last week and the multiplier goes up to 12

I think your board will take at least a 800MHz chip, whether it be a PIII or a Celeron is up to you. I would flash it with the latest BIOS, & then see how high a multiplier you have.

I have a ABIT BF6, which I think is "below" your board if you look at the ABIT mobo pecking order. I can put a PIII 1000 in mine if I wish. But, I chose a 1200 Celeron mated to a Powerleap adapter instead:

Maybe you can help me. I can upgrade an Asus cusl2 (815e) to p3-1000. Or an Abit bx6-II to Celeron 1200.
I know that in the same M.B the Celeron will be quicker. But in my case the BX is UDMA-33 and AGP*2. And the 815e is UDMA-66 and AGP*4. So what's the best?

First of all, the Celeron 1.2GHz Tualatin is SLOWER than the 1000EB in most programs do to it's 100MHz MEMORY bus. Memory access is very important, especially in games!
Second, the BX still outperforms the i815 even with only AGP2x and UDMA33 limmitations.
Your best choice is the PIII 1000EB on the BX6-II. Yes I do own a Tualatin 1.2GHz, it performs about the same as my former PIII 700@933.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

I would shoot staight for the PIII 1000EB, the FC-PGA version on a slotket, using an Evercool ND-8 cooler (or better, this one just happens to be a good low profile cooler). You'll need PC133 memory and a fairly recent AGP card (any GeForce2, Radeon, or newer will work fine).

Crashman, see: http://www.xbitlabs.com/cpu/celeron-1200/
And you can also see the links in: http://www.powerleap.com/Products/iP3T.htm
You can see there that the Celeron outperform the P3 in almost every benchmark!
And what about the 2/3 AGP in the BX? I intend to buy the Geforce 3 or 4, I don't want to found out that it doesn't work in 100Mhz = 133*2/3 after I bought it!

Notice the games and game demos? That's were the PIII usually took the lead. Those business benchmarks are a little screwy in my opinion, but then again I can't time Word.

Having owned both the Celeron 1200 and the PIII 933, I was very dissapointed to see the Celeron NOT beating my PIII in games.
