see System Devices in the Device Manager, which will usually show both the Northbridge (CPU to PCI bridge etc)and Southbridge (PCI to ISA bridge) names in the list. The Hard disk controller will show the IDE controller part of the Southbridge.

But it will show nothing if the system does not have proper inf update, or the chipset is unidentified. And noway you could get the motherboard manufacturer's name. You can get the Wcpuid utility from http://www.h-oda.com which can read the BIOS tables and tell you about the board manufacturer, board revision and of course all about the chipset. But some cheap motherboards do not provide such information, you can only get the chipset details.

A sureshot way to get this info is to decode the BIOS string. When the machine is booting up, conuting memory press the Pause button and note down whatever is written on the bottom line of the screen, its the details of the BIOS.

There is some difference between how two leading BIOS manufacturers, AMI and Award encode the information, you can get them both on http://www.wimsbios.com

Look around for a program called CTBIOS, it will tell you EXACTLY what your motherboard is, including BIOS revisions, etc, more information about your motherboard then you ever cared to know!

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Actually there're lots lots of methods to reach your aim...
How about the Hardwinfo...use it in the dos-mode...both the manufacturer and the mobo-chipset you may know...and others a lot...
