I just built my first computer. I used a DFI motherboard ( AK75-EC ). I am running Windows 98 SE. My Mouse, Keyboard, USB & Parallel Ports are woking fine. The windows control panel says my Serial Ports are fine. But they do not work. I have set the BIOS to auto for the serial ports and I have also set them manually to the recommended settings in the manual.

Does anyone have any ideal on how to fix this problem

how do you know they dont work? try using a serial mouse on one of the ports. windows should have detected them and installed the drivers correctly. its rarely missed by windows because they are the basic devices on any motherboard since 1981.

the Auto for serial ports should work in all te cases, but you could try set them manually. if they still dont work then probabely the mobo is bad (just the serial controller subsystem, but it really renderes the whole board useless) check for any shorts under the motherbord.
