I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for a Duron/Tbird mobo with 4 USB 2.0 slots.
A friend of mine is looking into upgrading thier K6 233Mhz. What they are looking for is a mobo, CPU, RAM, HSF and PSU for $250-$300 USD. Thanks.

are they all USB2.0?

many boards today have USB1.1 on board and provide headers for 2 USB1 or USB2 connectors.

bellsboy, why do you want 4x USB2 ports? each port can be scaled to 7 devices anyway! I guess USB2 provides for more.

I think the MSI K7T266 Pro2 U/RU (MS-6380) has 4 USB 2.0 ports and 4 USB 1.1 ports.

well this mobo is going to be used for at least the next 2 years.. and USB 2.0 will be the new standard over USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 is Backwards compatibale with 1.1. My dad is building a new PC from his K6 233MHZ PC and has a few USB devices, so instead of having to replace these devices he wanted USB 2.0 since that would give him backwards compatibility and frontwards compatibility.
The MSI board is the only one I could find anyone know if those USB 2.0 are on the board or do u need to buy something extra to get them to work? Thanks.

The KT333 boards will be shipping before the end of the month. Most of them will have USB 2.0 ports - so if you can, I would wait just a little longer.

The NEC usb controller is on the MSI board and it comes with all the cable and brackets for the usb 1.1/2.0. Check this review and pics. Just remember only the MSI K7T Pro2 U/RU version has usb 2.0 and not the regular version.

The other board i know that has usb 2.0 is the Gigabyte GA-7DXR+. This is the one with the + and not the regular GA-7DXR.

You can also just get a pci usb 2.0 card.

Wait for the KT333A.

"Yeup, but I recommend you wait for the KT333a. Via has a history of making crappily performing chipsets and then releasing an updated version with an 'a' that are much better." - fatburger

Sorry about that. Actually, i did get that idea after reading your post and was thinking yah, vias good chipsets have an 'A' at the end and though to reccomend it to this guy. I had a funny feeling about that post. Damn, my mistake.

Fair enough

I didn't think you'd copied me or anything, I just thought it was a weird coincidence.

Hehe, i'm not too good typing and didn't want to think to hard of what to type. Most people know about the vias chips and you had it worded nicely so i just cut and paste and edit. I was too lazy to think and your words were better than mine.
