god broadband sucks in this county...
limited companies to choose from (the great ripoff merchant telstra, optus and a few minor players)
high charges 80 AU bucks a month for DSL
bandwidth limitaitons, download caps of 3Gb/month (or less)
*sighs*
all i want is my bell canada account back here in australia. 128kb down, 16kb up, absolutely no limits what so ever for 25 bucks a month.
I agree. The worst thing about DSL in this country is that no matter who you go through, they all end up having to go through Telstra's exchanges anyhow, and the only guarantee that Telstra gives you in this service is that you can disconnect at any time. And coverage is still limited to major city areas. I still can't get access to broadband, and I only live 65KM's outside of brisbane! I really don't like Telstra
yet somehow i managed to get 128kbytes/sec unlimited download DLS in canada for THE SAME PRICE as what im paying now for unlimited dialup, except now im also getting booted every 4hours
and ive just read the 'fair terms of use'
what a draconian list of rules.
movies are frowned upon
as is music
downloading of binaries
anything remotely fun related
Personal Satellite connection= slower then dial up(at times) and lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
I live in Victoria BC. Im getting my ADSL through Telus(I wish it was a Canadian co.) I was really suprised when I found out I was getting 1600Kb down and 700Kb up. I dont know much about it but maybe thats the difference inbetween DSL and ADSL? I mostly like that Im not capped at anything because Im simply paying for >| (this) |< much bandwidth either way. Is DSL like cable or something? I mean are you sharing your bandwidth?
well i was on the bulk average bell canada market penetration dsl option.
128k/sec doesnt sound much...
till u leave it on 24/7 i could easily crack 2 gig in aorund 6 hours or so.
you will be glad to know I discoonected my cable internet from Telstra. Telstra make microsoft look like really secure, if that makes sense 3gb max a month, and like 18cents a megabyte after that is stupid if you ask me.
Hmm, I live in Toronto, Ontario in Canada, and I get cable internet through Rogers. Rogers offers 3mbps downloads and 400kbps uploads. The highest downloads I've seen in KB/s was 384KB/s and 45KB/s for uploads.

in addition to telstra giving the home user an EXTRA ass raping, they have also decided to start raping schools too!
something like a 300%+ raise in internet access fees...
TO all the the Bell Canada users and all the Shaw users out there:
I recently read an article in the Globe and mail. Apparently Bell is in the next year implamenting a payment structure for users.
There will be three different types of users. 1) peeps who check there email. 2) 'active' users 3) Bandwidth hogs
The cost structure is suppose to be in the range of for: 1) $20.00/month 2) $30-$50/month and 3) $80-$100/ month.
First this sucks for all the bandwidth hogs. Most of us are. Second. YOu will never want to dl an ill**al ware ever again. With the FBI using Carnivore to track people dl certain 'things', it will get a lot easier for them to bust people acting as servers for, 'things', or dl it at all. I think mainly of that 15 year old guy in New Zealand that got busted a couple months ago with over a Terabyte of illegal warez....yes you heard right a terabyte. I cant imagine.
Just be wary people. Theres no such thing as privacy on the internet, more so then we are willing to admit, accept or understand.
As for Shaw, I just saw on the news a couple of nights ago that there going to be implementing a very similar plan.
I for one am really happy to not be using cable right now. For a multitued of reasons from Privacy issues(espec. w/ shaw), sharing bandwidth(sucks). Its not consitant(or safe), aswell as reasons such as Im getting 1.7megs a second dl, and that doesnt change because it my bandwidth. SO if something happens and everyone signs on at the same time, my bw isint effected. Its a nice feeling to fall back onto considering all the sh-it going on in the world right now. ( the 700k upstream is nice and consistant too )
What do you mean Bandwidth hogs? FatBurger? hehe, j/k. Anyway, Bell already gives you unlimited time for $40CDN or less. They can't expect people to suddenly start paying $80+. And isn't Shaw gone? I thought Rogers purchased Shaw?

Toronto does not have the best broadband in the world. Guelph is faster. The cable is almost twice as fast there. Alot of my friends and my brother lives in T.O and has Rogers. My other brother is in Guelph and he also has rogers, which smokes. Quicker than my bell sympatico dsl in hamilton
"telstra criticised over net fees rise"
small school fees from $200 to well over $2000
medium $700 to $4000
large $1120 to $5000
the rises would be partially ofset by a slight reduction in the per megabyte usage rate
another quote
"telstra is abandoning all its sense of social and community obligation and just dashing for cash"
apparently all this boils down to shareholders. they are unhappy with the financial performance of telstra, so prices go up.
school internet, busness, private, mobile phone charges & SMS.
impressively bad
god im glad i dont have telstra cable or dsl...\
but im sitll stuck on lousy 56k
I can try to get some real info on Bell Canada's High Speed ADSL future price structure. It may take a few days but I'll post it if I can find out anything.
not as bad as Malaysia. Only 2 companies and only 1 is available widely. Dial-up broadband is 4cents per minute while fixed IP costs a hell lot(don't remember how much).
USD 1= RM 3.825
yeah, my buddy stinger in Houston says he pays $60 USD for his 500k cable and he gets dropped a LOT. don't even bother trying to get a file off him through ICQ because it will drop every 10 minutes or so, in games of CS he'll just lag out to like 2000 ping for like half a minute then be totaly fine..... weird
