My boss has recently purchased a Dell Axim X3 pocket PC PDA and a Dell
TrueMobile 1300 USB device. He his adamant that the Axim can simply
connect to the TrueMobile device but from my first inspection of the
hardware it looks like the TrueMobile device is used for connecting a
PC/Laptop to an existing network and not to create a link between the
Axim X3.

Am I right in thinking this? If so, what can I use to connect the Axim
X3 to his computer so he can Sync outlook with his pocket PC.

Don't know what the Dell True Mobile device is...but...I have an Axim
3 and connect to my wireless setup ( Linksys Wireless Router ) using a
Socket SDIO wirelss card.

Is the Axim the 3 or the 3 with built in wirelss?

Is there a wireless network in place for the laptop and the pda to
connact to?

You are correct. The Truemobile 1300 is for attaching to the USB port
of a PC and requires the PC client software to be loaded for it to
work.

Does your boss want to simply sync Outlook with his PDA? if so
attaching a cradle via USB to his PC and running activesync will do
this.

If your boss wants to sync directly from his PDA without connecting
via a PC he will need a SDIO wireless card (Dell don't seem to offer
one) and your exchange server will need Microsoft Mobile Information
Server (2000 or 2003 but not 5.5).

We use Dell Axim 3i which already has wireless onboard but still have
to sync via USB to PC until we upgrade our exchange server.
