Greetings Jak,

It's legit, although they did a poor job with this one.

If you're having problems updating, just grab it from WindowsUpdate (along with a bunch of
other updates added yesterday):
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

It's actually version 4.7.3001.

Greetings Jonathan..........I have made the update for WM last tuesday as it
prompted me to do it but just afterwards I have not been able to sign
in........a message appears saying "signing in to .NET Messenger service
failed because the service could not be found".....the actual version I have
is 4.7.3001.........and I also have found some other people with the same
problems..........Any ideas?

I also got this forced update a couple days ago. Not only did it not follow
the usual Automatic Updates procedure for allowing installation now or
later, when the update completed, it rebooted my machine without prompting.
I was in the middle of researching something with several web pages open.
All lost.

Was the threat really so severe that Microsoft felt it needed to take
control of my PC in this manner? Could it not have waited to update in the
usual manner?
