Abit BL7 mobo woes

I've just powered on my self-built system (Abit BL7 m/b, P4 1.8, 1GB 133MHz SDRAM, ATI Radeon 8500, 120GB IBM IDE HD, Liteon CD-RW and DVD) for the first time and I get nothing (no display on the monitor), the on-board diagnostic 7-segment LEDs stop at "EC" and I get one long, low, continuously repeating tone. I can find no reference to an "EC" POST code in my m/b manual or on the Award BIOS website. Can anyone offer any insights please?

Sounds like a CPU lockup from the message, but I doubt it has anything to do with the CPU.

First, remove everything (cards, drive cables, etc) except the video card, CPU/Cooler, and RAM, and give it a shot. If it still doesn't boot, the first thing I'd check is to see if the motherboard is being grounded by a misplaced standoff.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Thanks for that. I've since found out that it's because my memory is registered (?). I've got some non-buffered on it's way as we speak! I've learnt a valuable lesson about checking memory compatibility

Thanks for your help again. I've just got to get it to recognise A: drive now!
