I have an ECS k7s5a motherboard(SIS 735 chipset) and a Pine Nvidia Gforce2 MX 400... When I install the AGP graphics Controllers for the MB, and Then the Drivers for the Video Card, my system locks up. It only runs if I Disable a BIOS feature: AGP 4x Controller. GREAT!!! now I can use a great video card, but only with AGP acceleration DISABLED!!!!!
I've tried the new drivers for the MB and Video Card, all versions of Direct X, Updated the BIOS of the MB, but none worked. I also Tried to contact someone of ECS, but got no answer. Can Anyone help me?

My System Stats:
Atlhon 1,4 Processor
256MB DDR
HD 60GB Quantum Fireball
Tried all Windows OS versions, all give me the same problem.

First of all I hate to burst your bubble but that is not a great video card. Secondly, disabling AGP 4x in bios does not disable hardware acceleration it merely runs in AGP2x mode. Third, you fail to mention what drivers you are using, what size power supply, etc etc. Please list your current OS, dx version, nvidia driver revision and any thing else that may be relevant. My ECS board runs flawlessly with a gforce2 ultra. Now, you very well cold have a bad board, but more likley the symptons you describe could be a result of being underpowered.

It's not what they tell you, its what they don't tell you!

OK,
my OS right now is Windows 98SE
I'm using Directx 8.1
Drivers of MB are SIS 1.09 VXD drivers
Nvidia are 23.11 drivers
My Power Supply is model LC-350ATX

You must first install your graphics card drivers and then AGP drivers for Your MB. You also need to run DMA98.EXE which is contained in directory \win9x\sisfiles of the agp driver package, to make sure that all of the drives are in the correct DMA mode.
Shortly, please read the K7S5A FAQ at ocworkbench :http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001477
It`s very useful.

I Used DMA98.exe, the program runs, but nothing shows up, is this correct? Also you told me to install first the video drivers, then the MB AGP drivers, but The manual of the MB tells to do the inverse. I tried both, none worked...

Running an MX400 at 2x AGP shouldn't cause a problem. The GPU can't realy handle a full 4x of data anyway.

Try disabling other AGP features, like AGP Fast writes, Read Sync, ect.

Also, try newer or older drivers of the Detonator drivers.

Do you get the same problem if you try to use the manufacturer's drivers?

RAM Disk is not an instalation step.

The Manufacturers drives does not exist!!!!!! The manufacturer is PINE, I went for Drivers but there are only the detonators XP drivers...
Where do I disable these options talked above? in the BIOS config??
thanks

Oof. L&C power supply? Get rid of it before it bursts into flames. I'm not joking. Their power supplies are dangerous. Furthermore, they may blow out your motherboard and processor. This goes out to anyone else with a L&C power supply. Get rid of it. It could be a fire hazard.

What?

You might want to consider going back to 21.83 drivers. I am told by EVGA that there has been troubles with the 23.11. I was having lockups and contacted them. They suggested I revert.....I did and no lockups anymore. Not sure if that is your problem but its a thought.

I tried that... It starts Windows just fine, but when I run some application based in directdraw, then it locks up...
also happens with the directx tests
