Hi. I'm am getting very frustrated troubleshooting an
inability to connect video/audio conversations in either
Windows Messenger 4.7 or MSN Messenger 6.2.
I have a P4 notebook with Windows XP Home SP2 and Windows
firewall enabled; a home wireless environment using a
Linksys router, connected to our ISP (Telus.net) with
high speed ADSL modem. My webcam is a Logitech Quickcam
for Notebooks Pro, which tests out offline in both audio
and video, and with successful A/V conversations using
Yahoo Messenger.
Two things: I recently switched from a cable ISP to Telus
ADSL, and all Internet access/email service run just
fine. Secondly, my sons in Alberta and Ontario preferred
MSN Messenger so I uninstalled Yahoo and loaded the
latest verions of both MSN and Windows Messenger.
Either Messenger connects to them as Contacts and we can
send typed chat messages. When we initiate or accept
video conversations however, the Status shows ...
Connecting ... but ít doesn't. Windows Messenger gives
me a message: "Network not available, please try later."
MSN Messenger just doesn't connect, and gives a text line
saying the Video conversation has terminated.
My ISP Tech Support says it's not a network or bandwidth
issue and everything seems fine at their end.
I've looked at other bulletin boards and have seen
various takes on this problem. I have tried everything:
reloading XP and SP2; removing and reinstalling Logitech
camera software; removing and reinstalling Windows/MSN
Messenger; ensuring my firewall has appropriate
exceptions ... still nothing. Everthing tests out ok and
everything works except video/audio conversations. Same
failure mode in both cases.
All things being equal, this should work. How come it
doesn't? Is there something I'm overlooking?
