I get this message when I go to download the newer version of the MSN
Messenger....should I still go with the download? What does this mean?

Greetings Mary,

No need to worry about this, it's simply telling you that you have MSN Explorer installed
(which I assume you don't even use). Even if you do, it's just the Messenger contact list
within MSN Explorer that won't work.
