I just installed XP Pro on a system with two 160g hardrives. THe HD I installed on XP on was brand new right out of the box, however the second hardrive had videos and MP3s on it. When I installed XP it automatically assigned the new drive as E and the old one as D. Will this cause any problems in the future? Hense, no C drive.
Yes, it may cause you some problems. I had to reinstall Windows because it was installed on d instaed of c and some drivers/programs refuse to work/install. My keyboard drivers would not install anywhere but c:

Actually I think you can change the drive letters from within XP. Try going to control panel/Administrative Tools/Computer management/storage/disk management...you should see a graphic display of your drives, both logical and physical. Select the drive you wish to change the letter of and right click on it. One of the choices should be "Change Drive Letter and Paths"
The original poster was a little sketchy as to what equipment he has and whether or not he has two operating systems installed. If he has some relatively recent stuff from within the last year, year and a half he should be able to go into the Boot section of the BIOS, set it to boot from IDE device, place the drive with the OS on the primary IDE channel as master and boot up okay.
I confess I have changed every drive letter on my system except the C with my OS because I didn't like the way windows had assigned the letters...that's why I said earlier "I think" and "try"
Its really not a problem at all, my boot drive is J, if you have to load drivers or software that is default to C, just change the destination to install the files to, from C, to whatever the drive letter is, but whatever the boot drive letter is that WinXp assigned the drive during the installation of the OP/SYS, you're basically stuck with, unless you reinstall from scratch, because WinXP will not let you change it, because you're using the drive you're trying to change.
