Is it true that Verizon will not support any handset that does not
have an extendable antenna i.e. not a stub and not an internal?

Huh?? My vx6000 that I just purchased has a stub, non-extendable antenna.
What are you saying in "Verizon will not support?"

They sell them with a stub so they must support them. now if you
purchase some sort of stub on your own they probably will not support
it.

They are supported when you are in an area where you can get a decent
signal. If you're out in the boonies and are quite a distance from the cell
tower, then you probably would have wished that you had a decent antenna
because your stubby phone won't work worth squat. At least, that is how it
seems to be around here.

I do believe it comes from a review stating that Verizon only SELLS phones
with some kind of external antenna...the internal only antenna types
supposedly get too poor of reception. (I can vouch for that when I had a
Sony Ericsson T300 with T-mobile reception was very spotty and now I have a
Nokia 3589i with Verizon and I get all bars everywhere in town.)

Because they're *not* ridiculous... When I signed up a year ago, I was
told the same thing by the Verizon rep in my local wireless store.
That was when I bought my V60i. I just switched over to a V60S, and
replaced the stubby antenna that came with it with the retractible
antenna on my old V60i.
Whether or not it was true isn't really the point, is it? People have
been told things by supposedly reliable reps. What's so ridiculous
about relaying (or questioning) that info here?

So let me see if I understand this -- when you bought your V60i, which
does have a "regular" antenna, Verizon told you that if you had
purchased a brand new phone that happened to have a stub antenna you
weren't eligible for customer support and it would come without a
warranty, because "Verizon doesn't support phones with a stub antenna."
That's what you claim you were told?

No. Where, exactly, did I say that?
What I was told was that Verizon didn't support phones that did not have
retractible antenna's. Meaning, that Verizon wouldn't be selling me a
phone that didn't *have* a retractible antenna.
They simply weren't offering phones that did not come with that
particular characteristic, and I gather that either you couldn't use one
with their service if you had purchased one. Or so I was told at the
time.
I don't vouch for the veracity of the statement... only that it isn't
all that ridiculous to reply to postings that recount someone's
individual experience.
And, really, the more ridiculous the statement or question is - all the
*more* reason to answer the post, if for no other reason than to dispel
a false rumor.
