sorry if posted in the wrong section, anyway

I heard of boosting/installing Windows 7 from a "fixed/internal" DVD drive or USB flash drive is possible

but is it also possible to install/boot it through an external USB Optical Drive? Since my brother is planning of buying one

I was hoping it would since my previous laptop, the Compaq CQ40 310au's internal optical drive was already screwed and won't
work and the laptop is out of warranty already. I had the laptop checked and the newer internal optical drive would arrived after 3 or more weeks and I obviously can't wait that long. The laptop will be reformatted then have the new OS installed, since the current OS is a bit unstable as well.

is it possible to boot from an external USB optical drive?

and how to boot windows 7 from a usb flash drive?

thanks in advance

Microsoft heading is "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" so it looks as if it would boot off usb dvd, I can't see any reason why not, as long as your pc can boot off a usb device.
You will need this tool for usb flash drive.>
