dead Motherboard ?

The fan support on my ASUS A7V133 socket broke, and the AMD chip burned up when the fan came loose. The board appeared to be undamaged, so I got a fan with a different mounting and installed an old 950 MHz chip and tried to start the system back up. But it doesn't do anything. It doesn't give any of the BIOS beeps when powered up. Since this is my first opportunity to witness a fried chip, can anyone tell me if the board is dead or has the BIOS and/or system controller chip been damaged ? I hate to throw it out if there is a way to fix it.
Thanks
