Can anyone explain to me, the procedure to convert my laptop back to XP. I made the mistake of installing Mandrake 9.0 on it,ran it for a while and decided to remove it and return to XP. Understanding that Mandrake requires FAT16, and that XP claims that it can run on FAT16. So why is it, after I convert the drive back to Fat32 utilizing Mandrake and restarting with XP setup floppy # 1, XP Setup disk still doesn't want anything to do with it. I have tried everything that I can think of, but to no avail, not able to get XP to install. I have tried Partition Magic as well, and still same prob. GRRR!!!! Someone help, before I throw the whole laptop ou the window..lol

And now it is time to play...

well the standard procedure is to wipe the HDD using a boot disk of some kind. normally the Windows CD, or the Linux CD has this option. and will format the disk for you into its own format.

the issue is linux doesn't use FAT16 i don't know where that came from. it uses a number of file systems. one of them can be FAT32 (standard windows 98 format).

stick in your windows XP CD and choose format HDD, it should work unless somthing is screwy.

Did you delete Mandrake's partition by either using Windows XP CD or Partition Magic, then create and format a new one?

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.
