Difference between 4gb and 8gb

Hello,
if a laptop has 2 slots for a max of 4gb, and u get rid of the 2 plus 2 and use 4 plus 4 in the same slot?

no, your mobo will only read a max of 4

You would need to check the motherboard specifications, but a board that only has 2 ram slots is highly unlikely to support a 4GB ram stick.

Most laptops only have 2 slots.

If you go to www.crucial.com, they have a nice system scanner that should be able to tell you the max RAM you can use in your system. Also, unless you have a 64bit OS, upgrading past 4 gig is a waste.
