All I remember is that there is a stigma about on-board sound. Can anyone remind me what issues may arrise like offloading proccessing to the CPU or low memory bandwidth?

all i know about onboard sound is that they are really cheap and are usually low performance, and takes up system resources and cpu processing power.. well that's at least what i thought

onboard sound really doesn't use any less resources than say a live! or audigy would. if your looking for something just to listen to music on cheep computer speakers etc...onboard sound is all you need. if your looking for high end sound spend the extra money.

On-Board sound is must better than in the old days.

I mainly use Gigabyte boards and they use Sound blaster 128's (the on-board equivalent) on their higher end AMD boards.
