Hey,
I am going to abuse my plastic and build a system I really cant afford soon and was wondering what is the best dual processor motherboard at the best price.
I will be using it mostly for graphics and I game occasionally.
I only know of Tyan making dual boards but I thought I had heard that some other companies were going to be making dual boards but I havent heard anything in a long while.
I was looking at some dual AMD XPs but they seem to never get a favorable review. Should I go with Dual P4?

Thanx,
Bill Dwyer

Where are you looking, Intel's website?

Yes the XP's will go dual. They are basically the same chip as the MP's just not certified by AMD to work in SMP mode (although they will.)

Take a look at the following Articles on Dual Motherboards (all for AMD boards)

<A HREF="http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q1/020211/index.html" target="_new">http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q1/020211/index.html</A>

My main note is to why you wnat to spend money on a dual board, most reveiws state that very few programs take advantage of it and unless you are doing digital video editing, or other high-intense workstation tasks, you will see very little difference, but at more than 2X the cost.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

[edit]If you usually have at least two different applications open then a dual cpu system will "feel" both faster and smoother. I'm guessing everyone reading this will have at least 25 processes running.[/edit]

there are no dual P4s!

but you certainly can have the AMD 760MPX based Asus A7M266-D motherboard for dual XP/MPs!

Damn Straight ! The only problem with a dual cpu/scsi box is that working on anyone else's machine taxes my patience to say the least.

Damn straight! The corporate world and those of us with enough cash laying around know that an extra CPU and a SCSI disk system is the way to get some work done.
Whoops, I just noticed the signature.
Never mind.

yes, maybe the "corporate world". but honestly if john doe is sitting there with a new cpu and a decent amount of ram. he/she can do just about anything (having 30 apps open at one time to say you can is dumb imho). this celeron 600 i'm on now for the time being doesn't lose a step doing a few different things let alone a new xp1700 or p4 2ghz.

I run duals because i multitask between notepad, outlook express and winamp
