How to Clear out XP?

How can completely Format my hard drive, or at least erase everything, and start from scratch installing WinXP? I do not have a Floppy Drive and if I try and Format through the DOS prompt (which is controlled by XP), I always get a "Disk in Use" message. I do not want to just re-install XP, I want to erase the entire disk first, then install it as if the computer was bare bones. I do have a DVD R-W and a CD R-W drive.

create a boot CD with FDISK on it. then run FDISK and reformat your HDD

just tell xp setup to format the drive before it installs.

delete the partition you are installing on, recreate it, setup will ask you which file system to formant it with.
