I'm trying to run vantageinc.com WebPoint and, well I'm still having a bit of trouble setting up WINE on my FreeBSD box, but the software runs some sort of proprietary webserver that connects to the vantage hardware either over tcp/ip or rs232 and I was wondering if WINE might be able to run this sort of thing
or if anybody knows of home automation software that is compatible with vantage appliances that will run on linux/unix that would be a really big help too
But the best Linux software can be found on sourceforge.net and freshmeat.net
Did a search for you: <A HREF="http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=home+automation&trove_cat_id=201§ion=trove_cat" target="_new">http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=home+automation&trove_cat_id=201§ion=trove_cat</A>

wine will allow the software to run a web server but the comport can only be accessed by root. I don't know if this software can truly run under wine but try the wine home page and there help forams. I bet someone has tried.
