A7N266-C Audio

I am interested in the A7N266-C, but concerned about the onboard audio. One of the websites I saw the board on said that the six channel audio is provided via two AC97 sound chips. I am confused because I thought the nVidia chipset provided sound? Do I have it completely wrong? Does the nVidia chipset provide the Dolby Digital and basic two cahnnel sound output while the AC97 chips are only used for six channel audio?
