IDE bus slow on SiS 645?

My score on sandra 2002 for my WD 7200 40gig(BB) is a pathetic 12900. Does anyone know if the Sis 645 has a speed impediment with IDE or is my HD just slow?

Do you have DMA enabled in the device manager settings for the drive?

I want to say "yes" but not 100% sure. I'm running XP and I'm not sure if its enabled automatically. If not, how do I enable?

I don't have XP, so I'm not sure. If its the same procedure as W9x, then you right-click My Computer/properties/device manager. Select the drive and goto its properties and select the settings tab. If there's an empty box next to "DMA" then try checking it. Re-start and see how it goes.

If it causes instabilities, boot in safe mode and deselect the setting.

You could also try sending a P.M. to Toejam31, as he's currently working his way through all the probs in XP.
