How big a chip can this mobo take?

You can run an XP processor if you flash to 1005 BIOS. You will need a non XP to do the flash.

jlanka is correct... the A7M266 can run any of the current AMD processors, including the XPs. And yes, you must have BIOS 1005 on the board BEFORE installing the XP cpu.

I am running an 1800XP+ on my A7M266 right now.

The best way to be sure is to head over to amdmb.com and check out the forums for Asus motherboards. I'm sure the topic has been covered before, or that you'll get a definite answer from someone in a short period of time.

You need bios 1008b or above. Same instructions on chicken and egg as A7M apply.

Oh, they're about 1.5" on each side. Really thin, though.
