It will be easier to help you if you will post some more information. Go to the start button -> command line and type "dxdiag" (without quotes) hit enter and run all tests on the UI that will come up. This may help you determine the problem for you. Or you can post that here for all to read. Chances are that you will find the problem. Sounds like a driver issue that didnt quite succeed in installation.
Drivers that come with XP are about 5 years old now. So you always have to go to the hardware manufacturer website for the correct drivers.
