I would like to buy a KT333 mobo now and an XP 2000+ and then be able to use the same mobo with the new T'bred sometime this Fall. Not sure if I can.

So, the new KT333 systems are out allowing the use of DDR333 RAM. Now, from what I've gathered, 333mghz DDR RAM won't do that much extra over 266mghz DDR RAM because the FSB still only runes at 266mghz(133mghz x 2).

What I'm curious about is if I buy a KT333 based mobo NOW, and plug in a T'bred using a faster FSB (333 right?) will the mobo have to be replaced to take advantage of the 333 FSB or can it be set to run at 333 FSB? I think the answer is that I'd have to replace my mobo because the Northbridge will still be at 266. It can be overclocked to 320 or so, but still not be 333mghz FSB.

I'd still be able to run a T'bred on the KT333 board with 333Mghz DDR RAM at 266mghz FSB, but won't REALLY get the full benefit of the new 333 FSB capable T'bred until the Northbridge can run at 333 FSB as well.

Am I going in the right direction with this and understanding things right?

T-breds will run on 133 fsb just like Palomino. However I think most KT333's that overclock will support a 166 fsb regardless of the fact it isn't meant to. If the chip can handle it then it's not a problem. The only thing one needs to worry about is running the pci bus out of spec is there isn't a proper divider at 166.

Yes, you will be limited by the Palomino and Tbred's FSB (which are the very same), so here's a better idea. Buy a SiS645 board, a very overclockable (but cool-running) P4 1.6A Northwood, some PC2700, and you're in business!

If he wanted to buy Intel or overclock he prolly would have said. I could be wrong but it sounds like he wants to run at stock speed, or at very least he didnt mention overclocking.

RDBRUSKI indicated that he wants to go with DDR333, so IntelConvert's suggestion that he consider a Northwood and P4 DDR chipset (e.g., SiS645) makes a lot of sense whether or not he wants to OC!

Unfortunately, the SiS645 doesn't overlclock very well. I recommend the 845D-based ABit BD7.

AMD technology + Intel technology = Intel/AMD Pentathlon IV; the ULTIMATE PC processor

Hmmm, I don't know what your OC expectations are, but my brother's P4 1.8A is running absolutely rock-stable on a Gigabyte GA-8SRX (SiS645) at 2.5GHz (1.65v) and 140FSB with 2 x 256MB of Samsung PC2700. I don't think that's too shabby, do you?
