well halo2 is coming out specifically for vista, and it comes with directx10. i dont know much about where their goals lie, but i figure it will be a little more bloated performance wise at most.
Keep in minde that this is speculation at this point in time, but i do believe that it may offer some improvements. There is supposed to be a new file system for it allowing more efficient access of data, perhaps that will reduce load lag when paging file is used. Also its native DX10, so it should pretty good gaming platform for the next 4 or 5 years. We can only hope that Vista is as good as XP Pro is now. I don't know about you, but my XP Pro is very reliable compared to the days of Win98 or even 2000. If you are planning on upgrading, i would suggest wait until vista arrives. I plan to build a new 64-bit machine 6 or 7 months after its launch, hopefully i'll be able to save up about $2000 for a new box by then. My system is fine for now, so i'm not really worrying about it.

There must be a fair difference between XPro and XP:Home then, 'cos I actually found Windows 2000 to be more reliable than XP. I ran Win2k for nearly 4 years, with virtually no BSODs. On the other hand, I had X3:reunion BSOD XP twice last night in the space of 30 minutes. 8O
Having said that, at least XP runs all my games (2000 didn't, even when using APCOMPAT), and either 2000 or XP is a huge improvement on 98 and 95 (shudder).
