Can someone help me out finding a Fry's location? I have never heard or seen a Fry's but I hear everyone talking about it. Do they have a website where I could search for locations? I live in Cincinnati, OH but am in Cleveland, OH at school. Does anyone know if its similar to a MicroCenter Mall? Thankyyou for some help to one curious dude.

Ah, no wonder I've never seen one. That's a bit of a bummer, but I have no problem with ordering online.

Outpost is Fry's new online shopping website. However, the in-store sales and web sales are completely different.

Newegg is my favorite place online.

Fry's is on the west coast only and they really do suck. I'd even say they suck more than Best Buy. They're better than Comp USA though.

They occasionally have a good bundle price, but it's never for something I'd ever want. I'd stick to the online places like mwave and especially newegg. If you live out of CA you have the added bonus of not having to pay tax when you buy from Newegg. Nothing seems to even come close to newegg.

Trust me you dont want to deal with Fry's, unless they have one of their special deals goin on, then dont buy anything from them. Their prices are typically 10-15% higher than other stores or Online stores. One more thing dont listen to the sales morons there, they will direct you to some seriously sh1t product, if your remotely unsure about it. They tend to know nothing at all about the products they carry and if you ask them a remotely technical question they begin to stutter and run for their manager to help. But they just have so much sh1t in there and occasionally have good deals, that I'm compelled to deal with them. Just pray you NEVER have to return anything at Fry's.

I hear that . . . I had to. F'in idiots spent 20 mins looking over the boxes for the mobo and chip I was returning. After deciding that I was "allowed" to return, the f'in idiots forgot to tell me that I had to go back and wait in their obscenely long line to get the refund, since they do not charge back to the card at the customer service area.

I discovered this two weeks after I did the return. Fortunately, they completed the transaction over the phone with no hassle.

BTW, the combo was only on sale because the mobo had been opened and RETURNED. I can not stress this enough, as I believe that all of Fry's specials are actually open-box.

Best Buy does suck with returns . . . they record you, and want to restrict your no-receipt, unopened returns to one per year. If you try more, they give you the third degree.

BEST PLACE FOR RETURNS . . . Costco, hands-down. I have never had to return big ticket items, but with things under $100, you don't even need a f'in receipt. All they have to do is verify that they carry it. Or carried it. I returned a video 1.5 years after (never opened) because I decided I wanted it on DVD. It was not even in their computer, but could tell by the sticker it was theirs and they took it back. No Questions Asked.

One other thing . . . with small items, no-receipt returns are refunded in CA$H! These guys rule!

I'm new to this internet thing and consider my local computer and music shops to be far better, far nearer, far more informed and far more polite. I can see the products, see whether the staff are paying attention, have a live demonstration of any piece of kit and best of all I can get to know them and build a relationship to suit both our needs which in the end far outweighs any slight price advantages. It's just a thought.........

You from Cali as well?

Err no but maybe spiritually the north of England isn't as far removed from Cali as you'd think!(or anybody would think for that matter!!). I'd like some of that weather though...

Si señor. East of L.A., but not East L.A.

The Fry's I went to was in Burbank, I believe. The one with the spaceship that had crashed into the front.

Best Buys I have frequented all over. Same with Costco.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention about Costco . . . they accept Internet returns at their warehouses. Not too shabby!

You know, I tried that . . . just didn't seem to work.

1) Most of the lil' shops or small computer chains around here that might carry the stuff I want to buy . . . actually don't.

2) Most of them do not answer the phone until the 14th ring (e.g., PC Club).

3) When I went looking for a HDD and PSU, I went back to the shop that I had bought my Volcano II at. The guy behind the counter tried to sell me a 40GB Maxtor @ 5400RPM for $160. I just nodded, "Oh, ok", since I can get an 80 @ 7200 on the 'Net for the same price. I asked about PSUs, he showed me their two generics. I asked him if he carried Enermax or Antec, and he blew me off! He just walked away.

Believe me, if I could find a local shop here in So Cal that has well-mannered, informed people and decent prices, I would definitely go there before ordering online.

If anybody knows about any small shops here on the East side of L.A. (or West side, for that matter) that makes you feel like you are in those Office Depot Olympic commercials, please let me know.

That's a shame cos I still think that's the best way.Maybe it's different here in England but if you do find somewhere good it can be a big help. I use a guy who runs a small shop and loves his job! He will order off the web for you for a small percentage and will take care of any hassle. Strangely or maybe not I've not had too many delays etc maybe people listen to an owner of a shop more attentively than they do to you or me.

I have nothing to recommend in Southern CA. I just buy online at newegg now or at costco.

I've recommended costco on here a bunch of times. You can return anything anytime. Open software or a 3 year old computer. They make 70% of their profit just off of membership so the merchandise on the floor isn't that big a deal. It accounts for basically nothing.

Like I said, these guys rock. The latest deal I saw was a 128 CF card for $49 w/coupon . . . and they had a gripload in stock.

Plus they can tell you exactly what every other store has based on start-of-day . . . they told me that the closest store stocking Jet Li's "Once Upon A Time In China" DVD 3-pack was . . . Texas!

Guess I am going to web-order that one.

Hmmm . . . didn't know they were big Jet Li fans out there in Texas . . . oh, well . . .

Well, since it's here . . .

Update on the "Once Upon A Time In China" thing. I was wandering around the local Costco a few weeks ago, and, low and behold, was one copy of the 3-Pack. I snagged it. And I am sure glad I did.

Come to find out that the first movie started a new generation of Kung Fu movies. What you saw in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon . . . been there, done that. Except for the flying thing, Jet Li and the crew did the same style, but at a more furious pace, in these movies. And that was in 1991-1993.

One thing, the first movie was shot in mono. I don't know why, but if you can get yourself past it (after the first fight scene, I was well over my audiophile snobbiness), you will thoroughly enjoy the movie. The next two were shot (remastered?) in 5.1, but that doesn't change the cheesy dubbing.

But like I said, these movies rock. Nothing compares to seeing Jet Li kick away flaming spears that are hurtling towards him (no stunt double or CG). And, for you fans of last year's The Musketeer . . . the first movie is where they "borrowed" the ladder scene from. Here it resides in all of its 15 minute glory. Breathtaking!

Just thought I would let you all know about this, if you decide to take a break from your computering and are looking for a few good flicks to add to your collection.

they have some good deals on oem stuff sometimes, best deals on cdr, and they have a huge selection of electronic parts. they got one hole section for caps, and another entire section just for pot meters! radio shack cant come close. not to mention the little ods and ends like port pins, plug casings, all kinds of stuff i cant find anywhere.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.
