I want to use Skype, and have been looking at microphones for both my
laptop (Insp. 6000) and desktop (Dim. 4550). I'm not concerned about the
style, I just want the mic to pick up my voice from at least 6 feet, and I
don't want feedback, etc.

I've read that the usb mics are very good, and don't suffer from feedback,
but I'm not sure I wan't to use up a USB port. Is there a real difference
between a USB mic and one that plugs into a soundcard?
