To Jonathan Kay:
A friend & I are at different locations. Both have XP Pro SP2 (up to date
with latest updates), Linksys BEFSR41 (V3) routers with latest f/w, Windows
messenger 4.7.0.3001 and Logitech QuickCams. Our path to the internet is via
DSL modem (me) and cable modem (my friend). When we "REMOVE" the routers from
our configurations and then configure our windows firewall exceptions we can
successfully use messenger to do video/audio, file transfer, white board,
etc. But, when we place our routers into the configuration we can only do IM.

Relative to my router, there is an issue (#614 dated 8/2004) on the Linksys
"Easy Answers" support page which deals wtih Microsoft XP Messengers
Voice/File Transfer/Video service not working with the router. And the
Linksys response to this issue is "...Microsoft has identified a possible bug
between UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), which XP Messenger uses to
communicate, and NAT. Linksys and Microsoft are both working to resolve this
problem and hope to have a solution shortly."

So, what is your understanding of the above referenced MS/Linksys NAT
transversal problem & is there any solution on the horizon?

Next, other than setting up DMZ on both routers, any other recommendations
to resolve my problem?
