So anyway, I need a bit of a break from painting green skin, so have
put my 1500 points of Space Orks on painting hold for the moment.
In an attempt to a) diversify my collection and b) collect an army that
doesn't have so many figures to paint I have started up a small Blood
Ravens Space Marine army.
And before anyone asks, I am not doing the chapter Blood Ravens because
of the video game! I am doing them because I like their fluff (they are
book nerds!) and their colour scheme.
Please let me know what you think of the list, and what you would add
or change. This is only my second ever army, and the first attempt I
have made at writing an army list from scratch by myself, so please be
gentle.
The basic premise of the army was that it had to be shooty (again a
departure from my Space Orks). The land speeders charge forward, whilst
the squads and scouts stay back and shoot.
HQ (He will join one of the tactical squads for close combat support).
1 x Master - 75
Terminator Armour - 25
Pair of Lightning Claws - 30
= 130
Troops
10 man tactical squad - 150
1 x missile launcher +10
1 x plasma gun +10
= 170
10 man tactical squad - 150
1 x missile launcher +10
1 x plasma gun +10
= 170
7 scouts - 91
1 x missile launcher +10
4 x snipers +10
=121

hmm. Your commander is 130 points of nothing until he get into H2H.
Storm Bolter and Power Sword would be better if the squad job is to sit
and shoot. Not sold on Terminator Armor at this point level either. Is
it worth 2 marines?
Swap for bolters on the scouts for free.
Land speeders will likely not earn thier points back. Buy more marnies.
Maybe an Assult sqd to counter attack or Devestators.

<snip rest of army list>
Since the rest of your army is shooty, it's a serious waste of points to
have the HQ stand around twiddling his thumbs most or all of the game.
At the very least - ditch one claw and give him a storm bolter so he can
add to the firepower of the unit he's joined.
Hope that helps,

Hmmm, sounds familiar...

Not a bad idea - I still like sniper rifles myself.

Really - if he ditches the termie armor on the commander and the
standard speeders, then for 165 (80 + 85) points he could snag a
whirlwind and a LS Tornado with a hvy bolter & an assault cannon
instead. Whirlwinds rock for the simple fact they use the large
template - hit enough stuff and even good save rolls are going to be
failed eventually.

Quiet you.
Besides I never called for Terminators below 1500 points.

Keep the snipers trade BP/CCW for bolter as you have said: shooty or CC
not both. and with Sipers and a ML these scouts will be as ststic as a
Devestator squad.

Yeah, I need to get me a coule of those (Whirlwind). I would rather use
predators, model wise. But Whirlwind is nice gamewise. Never got the
hang of them in Dawn of War, though. (Much like playing Forza
Motorsport, The car I want is not the car I can drive well.)

From a competitive point of view ditch the expensive HQ completely- go for one of the cheaper marine HQs at about half the point cost and give him really minimalist weapons. You could save about 60 points doing this. Then lose one of the speeders in favour of a vindicator or dreadnought. These bad boys really can make their points back if used properly.
On the other hand Warhammer is played for fun and the idea of a lightning claw armed terminator is pretty cool and almost any army can win games if used well, just remember to arm the scouts properly- theres nothing worse than a combat armed scout squad standing at the back just to shoot a sniper.
1 Dreadnought (Elites) @ 105 Pts
Front Armour: 12; Side Armour: 12; Rear Armour: 10; Dread. CC Weapon;
Storm Bolter; Assault Cannon
MiniMax, MiniMax minimum SM max weapons You still have 20 marines but wit two more rocket luncers and two more plasmas . And what is imprortant, enemy must divide his fire power to kill your SM.
Scouts give good fire support.
In place of terminator armour it's better to take artificier armour if you plan to put hq in tactical squad or assault squad.
Well dreadnought is scary big and bad, it's good to have him around .
