Remote Assistance issues with Windows Messenger 4.7.3001

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger (More info?)

I have been able to provide Remote Assistance before with this computer, but
for some reason I am not able to do it anymore.
When an invitation is sent I get the message:

"The invitation from <username> to start using Remote Assistance is
declined because the program is disabled or is not installed on your
computer."

What would have changed, and how can I restore my ability to accept Remote
Assistance invitations?

I am on a home network, using Norton Internet Security as my firewall.
However, I had this same firewall when the function worked a few weeks ago.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

    Greetings,

You might need to re-add the required registry entries for this to work. Download and run
the following file on the PC that isn't working, then import the settings when it asks and
then reboot (assuming your Windows is in C:\Windows, otherwise you'll need to edit this in a
    text editor like Notepad):
