Hooking up a laptop to an exiting router

Hello,
my friend owns a Siemen 4100 4200 router and I cannot get my laptop to hook up and work. I have USB ports but do not know how to attached the added box which has the hookup that resembles a phone cord

That hookup that resembles a phone cord is probably an ethernet connection and you will probably have an identical one on your laptop. You should have received a cable with that router when you bought it but if you didn't, you'll find one in a PC shop if you ask for an ethernet or a CAT5 cable. Once cnnected, XP will automatically do the rest although you may need to tick the "Automatically detect settings" box in Control Panel>Internet Options>Connection tab>LAN button. [/#000ff]
