Just wondering what you guys are all running on cuz it appears to me that my comp isnt running at its full potential. I just need to compare, maybe im missing something cuz im not getting the fps i expected.
Ill start
Processor - p4 2.4ghz
Ram - 512 mb ddr 2700 (333mhz)
MB - Asus something ... 400mhz frontside bus
Video Card - x800 xt AGP (not platinum)
Sony 24" Flat screen crt monitor (widescreen)
Operating system - Win XP professional
-COUNTER STRIKE SOUCE-
Settings for cs i believe is direct 3d (not sure how to check if it is d3d or open gl)
@ 1024x768
Model detail - LOW
Texture D - Low
SHader D - Low
Water Reflect - Simple
Shadow D - Low
Anti A - 2x
Aniso - 4x
Vertical Sync - Off
High Dynamic Range - Full (if available)
Video Stress test results @ these settings was - 81.97 fps
But sometimes my FPS dip to around 30 on some maps like aztec or when there are some players on the screen. Any tips? or advice? What are you guys running and are you getting similar results or am i missing something?
is there anyway to change it from D3D to OpenGL? and how to check to see what im using?
i have amd 4000+ OC 2.6ghz, 2 gig XMS pc3200, 9800pro OC with those settings u showed i get 148.7fps. if u can oc your processor that helps a ton with source my fps never dip below 60 and are well over a 100 most the time
k1ngkong, I am so glad that you started this topic because I have had and still have the same concern for over 6 months now. My computer is decent, and I had just purchased an ATI X800 XT Platinum Edition and was expecting to get awesome FPS, just to relize that it is just a bit better then my older 128 MB video card.
Processor - P4 3.0 GHZ
Ram - 1 GIG DDR 3200 (400 MHZ)
MB - DFI Lan Party Pro875B
Video Card- X800 XT Platinum Edition
Sony 19" LCD monitor
Operating System - Windows XP Professional
-Counter Strike Source-
Settings - Everything on the lowest @ 800x600
Video Stress test - 80.94
While playing, my FPS dips to 20 or even 10 somtimes. In average tho, it averages around 40 fps on the recommended settings.
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 900mhz (socket A)
Nvidia GeForce Ti4200 128mb
4xAGP asus board
and 400 and some megs of PC133 shit ram.
I surprisingly got 40some fps on the stress test with graphics maxed except for AA and aniscropic filtering.
While i play CSS in bigger maps such as Aztec, office etc. i get about 20fps.
so i stick to ice world, 40 fps!
woah...guys get new machines...anyway if failing that try overcloking the CPU CS is very CPU intensive so that will help and at the low resolutions you are playing at the GFX is hardly being used, have you guys tried it at higher resolutions.
Hey toolfan if your run CS:S in directX7 mode vs DX9 you will get a huge fps boost. the graphics will look bad and the water will look like milk but the game will run fast ... i tried it just for fun got 212 fps on the stress test
can i just say take off the AA and AF and up the Resolution instead that way it will look better and run faster, AA anf AF take too much of a performance hit.
o and at the settings above 1024*768 everything on low with the 2x and 4x i get 189.71 fps cause im CPU limited, it would be higher with a single core.
with everything on MAX with 8x and 16x at 1280*1024 i get 172.29 fps.
i have one of those piece o crappolla sapphire radeon x700 cards, at least it has 256 of its own ram and its pcie, but it cant even compete with the other cards on the market with thier ddr3 ram and all that other expensive crap.
i just run withought aa or af, and all runs perfectly, generally in cs source its going from 90 as a bare minimum with default settings, at 1024x768 and the fps gets to be up to 350 at times, like when im surfing.
with aa and af on before, i kept getting shot in the fucking head by people before i could even see em, or turn around to hit them , now, withought it, it flies.
aa and af are absolutely the worst performance sucking scummy ass technologies ive ever seen. you need crazay crazay video card to run that shit.

amd 3200 xp
2 gig ram value select corsair(no overlcocking over here)
msi nforce board
7800 gs BFG card
My cpu smokes the p4 2.66 (tested it out on loading times already)
BUT (big but) I think in source games the ATI card is in favor, not to say my card is bad, but ATI cards such as a ati radeon 9500 can get a minimum fps higher than my 7800. Needless to say, that my next comp will be a amd/ati system. Was a nvidia fan boy, but they charge too much for so little. Case in point find a 7 series nvidia card w/ 512 mb vram and a newer ati card w/ 512.
