When you select the families button, and the family bin pops out,
there's another button that looks like a family with an arrow under
them. Click on that, then the family you want to move.

Unless you have Nightlife, it will only move the family. All of the
stuff will be sold, and diplomas, career, and aspiration rewards will be
deleted. If you do have Nightlife, move all the stuff you want to save
into their inventory, then move them out.
